I don’t know whether to be happy with today’s race result or not. I finished the 5K up at Van Cortlandt Park in 19:29, over a minute-and-a-half faster than last summer and finished 11th out of 146. But at 6:15/mile, that’s a minute-twenty slower than my personal best. True, the course is [...]
I ran a 1:22:57 half marathon out in Brooklyn this morning. That 6:19/mile overall pace was good enough for 75th out of 7,006. It was also a new personal best and a NYCM qualifier. The race was far from smooth sailing though.
I really, really didn’t want to wake up this morning. [...]
I ran the mile on an outdoor track for the first time last night. I knew before we began that I didn’t have a legitimate shot at breaking 5 — it was windy and rainy and my legs were still super tired from the weekend. But still, we had a lot of fun and [...]
Yesterday, I ran eight miles farther than I’ve ever run before. It went pretty well. Or, at least, as well as running 34 miles for the first time can go.
It started with Helen and I running quickly down from our place to the Upper West Side where Sarah was waiting patiently (despite the [...]
Antonio and I headed over to Riverbank this morning to get some speedwork in. The 3 mile warmup to get there felt tough, as most early morning runs do for me, and I was regretting my decision to stick a track workout in the schedule. Running is fun. Running painfully fast on the track, [...]
I planned on taking this week easy, recovering from the marathon, and then getting in some decent miles this weekend. I had toyed with the idea of 20 Saturday, 20 Sunday. That didn’t happen. I did indeed take the week easy (running only 32 miles between Tuesday and Friday), but then instead [...]
Yesterday’s marathon was one of those races where the time doesn’t even come close to telling the whole story. I ran my second slowest time ever, a 3:13:16 (online results) but feel like I ran as well as I could have given the conditions and am really happy to have pushed through. And, [...]
